MISSION STATEMENT 2013
Team character and team unity are our top priority for Kell Boys Lacrosse in 2013. Regardless of player contribution or program success, an overall culture change is expected and demanded from all players and supported by coaches, parents, alumni and faculty. Nothing less than 100% effort will be accepted from the team this season. Take pride in your preparation and performance on and off the field. This is YOUR TEAM!
RULES AND CODE OF CONDUCT 2013 SEASON
1.) Practice times/game times/team meals/meeting times/event times are NOT in flux. Practice for JV and Varsity will run from 5:30pm to 7:15pm. Players will be on the field 15 minutes before start time getting prepared to start ON TIME at 5:30pm. If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re late, don’t bother coming. JV and Varsity will be doing everything together this season so there will be no confusion.
2.) Team meals will be right after school in the cafeteria. Both teams will eat together, discuss game strategy, then board the bus to the away game, or proceed to the stadium for pregame warm-ups.
3.) Players will always be prepared for practices and games. Players will receive Kell Lax t-shirt and shorts when they make the team. Once team dues are paid, players will receive a reversible pinny, t-shirt and shorts, sweatshirt and sweatpants. Players must have their reversible pinny with them at every practice and game. Players must also have sneakers, cleats, mouthpiece, and protective cup along with all their lacrosse equipment. Once uniforms have been distributed they are the player’s responsibility to keep clean and in their bags for games. Players who do not bring their uniforms to school on game day will not play. Players are responsible for keeping their sticks in good working order. Make sure all stick problems are fixed before practices or games. See the coaches after practice if there is an issue you cannot fix concerning your stick.
4.) Practice/Game Rules:
a) Warm ups, stretching, calisthenics will be done correctly and efficiently. That means done together as a team and taken seriously.
b) 100% effort and concentration is expected and demanded.
c) Players will wear ONLY Kell lacrosse pinnies, shirts at practice. Shirts tucked in.
d) No talking while be instructed or addressed as a group. Do not take off your gear while being addressed.
e) During water breaks, run to sidelines and rest. No shooting on cage or screwing around.
f) No criticizing teammates. Positive feedback only.
g) Coaches coach, players play. While we are a team, it is not a democracy. It’s the coaches way.
h) Huddle in formation properly when feasible.
i) Listen, execute, correct, execute. This way of teaching works within our military, education system and business sector. IT DOES WORK.
j) Think positive! When faced with a new challenge, embrace the opportunity to grow mentally and physically.
k) Act and strive to be adults. You should not have to be corrected for basic behavior or social deficiencies.
l) Pick up balls as we move from drill to drill. No balls should be left on or around field after practices. Every ball found will result in sprints. Coaches and goalies are NOT ball boys.
m) Failing any of the above expectations will lead to team consequences.
5.) If you are sick, have a family issue or other situation that keeps you from coming to practice, you must call or see Coach Mac before practice begins to get an excused absence. NO EMAILS OR TEXTS! If you are sick, a Dr.’s note is required for an absence to be considered excused. Working on a project due the next day is not an excused absence, as students have plenty of time to work on projects and homework on their own time.
6.) Coach Mac’s contact info is:
7.) Excused / Unexcused Absences:
- One excused absence-the player will run the following day.
- Two excused absences-the player is suspended indefinitely and dues refunded.
- One unexcused absence-the player sits out one game.
- Two second unexcused absences-the player is suspended indefinitely no dues refunded.
8.) All Coach Mac’s contact info is listed above. NO excuse for not contacting him if you have to miss practice.
9.) No player is guaranteed a spot on JV or Varsity this season. Some players who were on varsity last season may be on JV this year. Some players may get cut due to the influx of younger more experienced players trying out this year. Seniors can only play varsity so they MUST make the varsity team at tryouts or they will be cut. Playing Kell High School JV and Varsity lacrosse is a privilege, not a right. No Varsity player is guaranteed playing time. Playing time is based on skill, attitude, hustle in practices/games and game situation. JV lacrosse is for training players for Varsity lacrosse so JV players will all get into all games. Playing time may not always been even, but JV players will get into every game unless they are benched. There will be no set positions. Attack maybe asked to run midfield etc. Playing time is earned during practice. If you do not run the offense/defense as instructed you will not play. You may be the best stickhandler on the team but if you cannot run the offense/defense you will not see the field. We play together as a team.
10.) Injured players are still considered part of the team. Unless you are confined to bed, you are expected to be at practice to contribute in other ways such as warming up goalies, picking up balls, providing moral support for your teammates.
11.) Academics are the most important part of your high school career. You will keep your grades up, behave in class and do your best in all your classes. If you are having problems in a class, see the teacher. If this does not work for you, see Coach Mac. He will speak with your teacher and contact your parents if needed. Do not act out in class. This means no sleeping in class, no disrupting the class. If you sit next to a group of students who are getting into trouble in class, move to another seat in the class. You are responsible for your behavior. If a teacher contacts Coach Mac about your behavior in class, you will get one warning. The next time he is contacted about you by any teacher, you are cut from the team. No exceptions. Coach Mac also monitors your grades via On-Track system. He will contact you and your parents if you are in danger of failing one or more classes. If you do not keep your grades up you will be suspended from playing in games until your grades go up. If you become ineligible to play, our athletic director, Mr. Giles will contact me and you will be suspended from playing. Concentrate on keeping your grades up. Do your homework every night. Be prepared for class. If you need extra help, get involved with LEAP tutoring at Kell. If you need more help see Coach Mac.
12.) You represent Kell Lacrosse at school, on the field and away from school. You are responsible for your actions. We expect you to represent Kell Lacrosse in a positive manner. Your actions reflect your coaches and parents. If a someone contacts Coach Mac about you for activities that fall under the Cobb County School District J-policy (Student Conduct: Code of Conduct (High School)) you will be immediately be reported to Kell administration and suspended from practicing and playing until the issue has been resolved.
13.) JV and Varsity will be playing Roswell @ Kell on Friday April 5th. After the games, players will be released for Spring Break. Players will return for practice on Sunday night April 14th at 7:00 pm in Kell stadium to prep for our games with Westminster on Tuesday April 16th @ Kell. Players who do not show up at Sunday night practice will be suspended indefinitely. You have almost 7 months to make plans to be back for practice. Players will all be responsible for acting appropriately while on spring break. If you violate team rules or county J-policy while on your spring break, you will be suspended indefinitely from the team. No exceptions. No excuses. Parents are responsible for reporting any county rule violations by their players over spring break within 14 days as per Cobb County School District J-policy. Failure to do so will result in indefinite suspension of the player.
